With her cuisine, Pia Camponovo has long since made a name for herself far beyond Solothurn.

At Baseltor, the chef focuses on Mediterranean dishes with an oriental touch. Her timeless creations are prepared with a great love of craftsmanship. The Baseltor has a long slow-food tradition, only uses meat from organic production and cooks with local ingredients.

Welcome Otto Simon

A generational change in the kitchen is a special moment. That’s why we’re taking our time and approaching it step by step. Pia has been shaping the cuisine and the Baseltor since 1992 with her Mediterranean, delicately Oriental-inspired and uncompromisingly sustainable signature style. Organic meat, regional vegetables and a clear slow food philosophy remain the cornerstones of our cuisine. Pia will remain at the Baseltor, passing on her knowledge, experience and the subtleties of her style to Otto.

Otto has been part of our cooperative since 2019 – first at La Couronne, then at the Salzhaus, where he played a key role in shaping the culinary profile as sous-chef alongside Christian Härtge. He comes from Thuringia and brings with him a rare depth of craftsmanship: first as a butcher, then as a chef – deliberately both, in order to get the best out of every cut of meat. In the summer, he also successfully completed his training as a head chef.

For Otto, the cooperative has felt like the right place to be since day one: clear values, a strong team and a place that offers him opportunities for further development. Together with Pia, he is now leading the Baseltor kitchen into the future – as usual: seasonal, sustainable, unpretentious and simply ‘Baseltor’. Both are looking forward to learning from each other and developing our establishment together.

Zurück in der Schweiz begann er im Restaurant Löwen zu servieren.
Wie ihr wisst, hat das Baseltor seinen Ursprung im Löwen und so fand auch diese wunderbare Statue aus Tahiti ihren Weg zu uns ins Baseltor.
